AltTox Web Article on the Dermal Penetration of Cosmetics

The USA-based web journal AltTox invited Professor Heylings to update the sections on Regulatory Testing and the Emerging Science and Policy relating to the dermal penetration of cosmetic ingredients. This area of “Alternatives” in safety testing of cosmetics is particularly important in the European Union where it is not permitted to test cosmetic ingredients in animals. Therefore the use of the in vitro (non-animal) test guideline, OECD 428 is an integral part of the approval process for new and existing ingredients used in personal care products.
